I wouldn't mind needing a phone - but I mind having to change my service provider because the school says so ... most people already have phones and contracts - what are they supposed to do? Break their contracts and pay for a different service? And Sprint? Are you kidding me!! The students will never get their messages.

Mercer has a similar program. I can't seem to find the link to at the moment, but there were some of the same complaints. They could only use a certain type of phone. The reasoning behind it was due to the company they were working with for being able to send messages (or that was my understanding) it could be a certain type. I think Mercer's has more minutes than that.

This all seemed to come about because of the shootings at VT earlier this year. I think requiring the cell phones was a way of making sure the messages got to the students, a COYA moment. I know its bad, but the world is no longer as it once was schools are looking for ways to keep people safe.
