JJR - of course I remember them! But, I have to agree with Chris. The library I'm in now only has 1 reference librarian - if she had to field all questions related to the darn catalog - then she'd never be able to help people who need real research help. The catalog is a finding aid - and should work as such. The reference librarian should be there to be help people who aren't sure what they need - or who have too many resources to sort through - or just to help people get started in their research.

If you have to go ask a librarian each time you want to use the catalogue search ... your catalogue search is utterly broken.

"Of COURSE folksonomy is less exact than LCSH– that isn’t the point of it. Controlled Vocabulary is amazing for precision purposes, but if you don’t KNOW about the terms it’s not that helpful."

Enter the Helpful Reference Librarian--remember THEM!??

Aww. My ears are burning....

Wait, this means that people are actually reading this thing! I may have to start updating on a regular basis now (well, I was going to try to do so anyway, but still!)...

While I do agree with your statement - I don't see this as a comment due solely to the fact that the commenter and M. Gorman do not agree - it has to do with the fact that Gorman is constantly making comments veiled as educated when he is obviously letting his personal prejudices interfere.

Calling someone a retard because they disagree with your opinion isn't exactly the best way to get one's point across, is it?
