You can also add public calendars for local weather and stock quotes.

One of our nearby public libraries exports a list of their programs to Google Calendar. I can have their events for a specific branch show up on my own calendar.

So now how about the idea of using Google Calendars to track library events or hours or other things you want to show the public that are date-oriented?

We are in fact planning on running on techie-oriented how-to article on this topic (and specifically on integrating a cal you manage through Google Cal into your website) in the next issue of the Code4Lib Journal, coming out in mid-March.

I heart Gcal. The public calendars are great - when I was at Simmons I set one up for our student chapter of ASIS&T, and we're using them at the library I'm at now for scheduling our classrooms and other patron spaces.

My favorite free calendars are for sports teams with television broadcast info - I love the Red Sox and the Boston Bruins, US holidays, and the weather widget (in your calendar's settings).
