The skype4twitter ap works fine for me, see http://blogs.zdnet.com/ip-telephony/?p=1718. Maybe this is a solution, if the lack of IM functionality with twitter is still a problem, that is.

I also grew accustom to the IM functionality of Twitter and started logging in to keep connected. Recently, I found Zenbe and it is my new favorite webmail service. It allows me to view/send updates for both facebook and twitter. I haven’t used FF yet but I will have to check it out soon.

The twitter exodus has left me feeling torn too. I love the simplicity of twitter and the ability to converse quickly. FriendFeed is good, but there is too much “noise” for me (especially if I am just dropping in for a quick visit). I am just going to stick to twitter for now with occasional forays to FF.

Bruce, I did see a bunch of people switching to that too – but I’m wondering if all Twitter users switch to that will it be able to handle the pressure any better than Twitter?

This is where open protocols for this stuff (microblogging?) would be advantageous to allow for cross system interaction. Not sure if that is possible yet, as I’m new to the arena.
