What the Hack event in PA

I’ll be speaking at a PaLA event later this month with Stephen Cohen. We’ll be talking about hacking your library and your life.

What the Hack?!? Essential Library & Life Hacks

When: Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Where: St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, PA

Nicole Engard – Library Hacks

It’s no longer enough to point students to the library at orientation and assume that they’re going to come in when they have research to do. They are expecting digital, efficient and free content at their fingertips, so how do we remain relevant? This session will introduce academic librarians to several tools to ‘hack’ your library and make it meet the needs of today’s students. You will leave with a toolbox of resources for little or no cost and tips on how to integrate these new ways of delivering and receiving information.

Nicole is the Open Source Evangelist at LibLime, where she directs the company’s open source education endeavors. In addition to her daily responsibilities, Nicole has published articles in several library journals and keeps the library community up to date on web technologies via her website What I Learned Today… In 2007, Nicole was named one of Library Journal’s Movers & Shakers. In 2009 she was the editor of Library Mashups, a book published by Information Today, Inc.
