Hmmm - I’d love to stick with a Fuji - but I assumed that was my problem - I have added a Cannon to my holiday wishlist - I might change it back to Fuji.

I’m quite fond of my Fuji FinePix E900. It was a lot more than I intended to spend, but it’s worth it. Because it’s a bit high-end, I don’t think it will be obsolete anytime soon, so even though it’s pricey, you won’t be looking for a new camera for a while (theoretically). It was an editor’s choice in PCMag and best of class in American Photo.

I have had a bad experience with Cannon - so I’d rather not buy another Cannon - but it’s good to know I can test in the store.

I was able to take pictures in the store. You’re making enough of an investment that they can’t in good conscience NOT let you play with the things.

I just bought mine this summer (my very first digital camera). I got to the store and the nice young (very young) man asked me what I’d been using. “Analog,” I responded. And he laughed.

But that’s neither here nor there. Basically, it came down to a decision between Sony and Cannon. Sony had better picture quality (they have real glass lenses) and Cannon was faster. But the Sony has a setting that will go fast if you don’t care that the picture quality isn’t as good, so I went with that.

How can you test that before you buy? Usually you can’t take pictures in the store.

No brands, but two things to test because they vary so much between cameras…and price is no indicator…
1) How long does it take between pressing the button and the shot actually being taken? I test this by waving my hand in front of the camera and seeing how the image differs from the spot my hand was at when I pressed the shutter.
2) How long does it take before you can take another photo?
