Yeah, I am a little behind on my feed-reading. (Aren’t we all?) Anwyay I didn’t really see the point of Twitter, either. But since I knew about it I got the joke:

I should mention my other reason for not using Twitter - I have to pay for text messages with my phone. I don’t want to pay for the 1000 text messages a month, so I don’t - which means each message costs me money

I can see how that might be handy if you weren’t in my predicament.

How about this?

Hypothetical scenario. I embed a Twitter widget into my blog (I have seen this done). When I want to give my friends/family a quick update, I text a sentence to Twitter. It shows up on my blog. I didn’t even have to go to a computer to add a new blog post. And it’s not archived for all time in my blog.

I can’t see this in use on a professional blog, but I could see using it this way on a personal blog. It’s amazing how much more in touch you feel with family/friends when you hear about what they’re doing every day. That’s nice for people like me - I’m a full day’s drive (14 hours) away from any of my family members, and I don’t have time to call them up on the phone every day.

Ha! Saw Twitter on a friend’s blog today.

I get what it is, just don’t understand why people need to know what you do every second of the day. I mean, isn’t that what a blog is for? To tell them about your day without all the meaningless minutiae?

Ah well, some will use it and others won’t… I’ll just be in the latter category.

I could not agree more. I don’t have enough time to really use Facebook, Ning, SecondLife or any of the other hot networking/virtual world tools, so I definitely don’t want to invest time in another one. But it’s also just that I don’t understand the appeal — which I do understand with the ones I listed above. Maybe I’m just not interested in that level of self-disclosure. Maybe we all have different self-disclosure boundaries. To each his (or her) own.

It seems like with twitter there is either infatuation or disdain, but little middle road.

Like you, I heard about twitter, checked it out and decided that I had no time for it in my life and that I saw little purpose to the world knowing that I was about to teach a class or make dinner or any other mundane task in my life. But I do consider it important as a technology trainer to be aware of the newest tools and to at least read about them and understand them — so I gave twitter 20 minutes of my life and am ready to move on.

Hi Nicole: Been a long time.

Great comments on Twitter. This is exactly what we all need to hear.

You say… “I donâ€™t think I need to try Twitter”

But you know about it, which is just as important, IMO.

Personally, I love Twitter. It’s fun, annoying, and addictive. We all have our infatuations. Twitter is mine…for now.
