I just read about a new site called Yelp - it’s another online review site. This one is a bit different from others I’ve visted - first off I think it used my IP to figure out where I’m located because it defaulted to Philly for my search, second you can review more than [...]
It turns out I must have installed Captcha! a bit wrong - I didn’t notice a problem but one of my readers contacted me to tell me that she was having problems. I’m going to look into it this week - I’ll keep you posted.
I’m trying to install MediaWiki on my other site (Tag You’re It) but I must say - it’s not very easy. I have read the documentation, but it doesn’t seem to be terribly helpful.
One thing I did find, was a hack to make it so that only registered users can edit and [...]
RSS Compendium lists the greatest tools! I have been waiting for some of the mailing lists I subscribe to to offer RSS feeds instead - since I read news on Bloglines much more than I read those newsletters 9I have about 300 unread in my mailbox) - now I don’t have to wait any [...]
Oh - I’m going to have so much fun with this one!
I just read on RSS Compendium about the Automatic RSS Feed Button Maker.
To make it easier and more convenient for readers of your blog to subscribe to your RSS feed, this RSS feed button maker tool will create over 15 different buttons that embed [...]
Steven Cohen frequently mentions how unorganized he is - well maybe this nifty tool would help - ReminderFeed.
ReminderFeed is a FREE reminder service tool that works through your feed reader. Simply fill out the form below, then add the RSS Link to your feed reader. It’s that simple!
What I’d like to see is a way [...]
I just read over on Leslie Burger’s blog about a - what I consider - silly fiasco over a simple holiday card. A NJ librarian sent decided to use the ALA “Seasons Readings” holiday cards this year. She sent her first batch of cards to the township committe, library donors and local politicians, [...]
Okay - I’ve never met him - but I love reading John Blyberg’s comments on Library 2.0. I’ve mentioned Blyberg in the past in reference to his ILS Customer Bill-of-Rights, now he’s talking more about this & Library 2.0 in general.
I wish I could write like this:
Vendors need to stop assuming that they [...]
Back in October I subscribed to the Google Librarian Newsletter and the first issue has just arrived.
This first issue is one article from a software engineer at Google, but Google promises that it won’t always be that way:
But this newsletter wouldn’t be much of a conversation if it were written solely by folks at Google. [...]
Check it out over at Clam Chowder (one of the first blogs I subscribed to )
Google maps can be just too much fun!
Anyway, I read on Google Maps Mania this morning about another fun semi-holiday related map - PackageMapper. PackageMapper maps the route your package took - or is taking.
There have been several discussions on librarian blogs lately talking about librarians as coders (LibrarianInBlack, Library Web Chic, Science Library Pad, Information Wants to Be Free and See Also)… I’d like to suggest that the reverse is true as well - coders as librarians.
Back in November I commented on a post over at LibrarianInBlack regarding [...]
Meredith from Information Wants To Be Free will be giving a free online presentation for OPAL (Online Programming for All Libraries) and everyone at our library is invited to attend in our multi-purpose room. I don’t know who plans on coming, but I think it’s great that our administration is opening it up to [...]
I just installed Captcha! and removed comment moderation - I hope this helps with the spam without upsetting my readers. Enjoy!
I have complained recently about troubles with Bloglines - but I think I’ll hold in there since Bloglines promises a light at the end of the tunnel.
We’re not going to beat around the bush about this. Bloglines performance has sucked eggs lately. Why? In short, Bloglines has been busting at the seams like the Incredible [...]
Opinmind is a blog search engine with an interesting twist … it lets you compare opinions. So if you search Microsoft vs. Linux you can see negative & positive blog posts on opposite sides of the screen. Sounds interesting - but for me I’ll stick to Technorati.
I mentioned NumSum before, well today I read on TechCrunch about 2 other online spreasheet sites - I haven’t had time to play with them yet, but I can quote TechCrunch for you:
As more office applications move online, JotSpot Tracker joins NumSum and the open-source TrimSpreadsheet in the spreadsheet space. While Jotspot Tracker is clearly [...]
I mentioned BugMeNot as an invaluable site if you want to get around required free registrations. Well now there’s a Firefox Extension that helps you skip a few steps. The BugMeNot extension makes it so that you can just right click on the loging box and choose BugMeNot to automatically fill in the [...]
Whenever I sit down to plan travel to a new place I have to decide where to fly into - but I have no idea what airports are in the area. That’s where this new Google mashup could come in handy - with a few upgrades. The mashup is titled: World Airport and Airspace [...]
Okay, so I’ve read all over about Firefox 1.5 and I went to download it (a while ago) only to find out it wasn’t an official release … so I decided to wait. Today I went back to the Firefox site and what do I see? Version 1.5 available for download!!
How come [...]
How did I miss this? I was just reading on Wired about LibriVox. What a cool idea!
LibriVox volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain, and then we release the audio files back onto the net (podcast and catalog). Our objective is to make all books in the public domain [...]
I missed this one yesterday - Gmail has also added another nifty tool:
Shortcuts on the right
Now Gmail automatically detects addresses and tracking numbers, and displays useful information such as directions and package tracking alongside your messages. Learn more
This is so handy! I can’t wait for the online orders I places to ship so I [...]
The other day I turned on my PC and Konfabulator told me I had to upgrade to Yahoo! Widgets. I followed the instructions and downloaded the new release … I have been way to busy to browse for new Widgets, but I have noticed that Yahoo! Widgets isn’t opening up when I start Windows [...]
I’m one of those people that Jason Clarke from Download Squad mentions:
If you just don't feel like you have the selection of fonts you need, check out Webpage Publicity, where they are offering 6500 free TrueType Fonts, a site dedicated to feeding your font craving. Beware though, browsing this site can eat away hours. [...]
