WYSIWYG Editor in PBWiki

Posted by Nicole on January 31st, 2007 under Wikis

Apparently PBWiki has upgraded their WYSIWYG Editor - I didn’t even know that they had one. I just edited my schedule on the CIL wiki and had my first experience with the new and improved editor - and it’s a bit annoying for someone who knows how to code - but I can see [...]

To Upgrade or Not To Upgrade - That is the question

Posted by Nicole on January 31st, 2007 under Technology
 •  2 Comments

Well it’s not my question - I’m not upgrading - but one of my IT staff members sent me this handy (you can’t hear the sarcasm in my voice - but it’s there) guide. Check it out - I hope it helps you decide.

Most Successful Web Redesign?

Posted by Nicole on January 31st, 2007 under Web Design
 •  No Comments

This year we’re going to be redesigning our library website. I’ve read tons of articles and attended sessions on different methods, but I’d love to hear from you. What was your most successful redesign project? What do you recommend doing? Not doing? How big was your team?
I thought I’d try and develop [...]

The future of Ask.com

Mary Ellen Bates writes about Ask X (the future of Ask.com):
It has pretty much the same information as Ask.com’s search results page, but it looks and feels much more functional.
I went over to poke and its new features are subtle, but neat. There is an add to my stuff icon on each result when you [...]

What will we think of next?

Someone recently asked me if there were any library-related blogs I’d like to see - topics that weren’t out there already - and I said, “Nope, I think we have it all covered.” And then I found Library Videos.

Someone just pointed me to the newest issue of D-Lib which has an article titled Resource Description & Access:
Libraries have lost their place as primary information providers, surpassed by more agile (and in many cases wealthier) purveyors of digital information delivery services. Although libraries still manage materials that are not available elsewhere, the library’s approach [...]

The Future of Paper Reference Materials

In one of my classes we were asked to read The Chain of Demand by Barbara Quint. Then we were asked:
What did you think of the Colin Powell article? Do you think that most people soon will, as Colin Powell already has, end their reliance on paper-based reference tools? Why or why [...]

Latest Issue of LibVibe

I’m trying to catch up on my podcasts (so this post is a bit out of date) and just heard on LibVibe about a quote from Democratic committeeman Albert Paolucci.
“The $29.1 million is just another encumbrance that will not make the libraries more available and efficient. Not when you have bookstores where you can sit [...]

MySpace to Issue Amber Alerts

I just heard on my local news that MySpace is going to distribute Amber Alerts through their site. I love it! Why? Because it’s a way to use the new community based technology for good - instead of sitting around bashing it because it could potentially be dangerous for kids.

Law Professor Predicts Wikipedia’s Demise

I just found this very interesting article in InformationWeek which predicts the fall of Wikipedia [via Law Librarian Blog].
Wikipedia will fail in four years, crushed under the weight of an automated assault by marketers and others seeking online traffic.
It’s a pretty interesting article - and could very well be true - as spammers and marketers [...]

Next month I am giving a whirlwind presentation (in one hour) on 23 (or as many as I can fit) Web 2.0 technologies for Law Librarians.
