The new search would let logged in users sort/rate their search results:
This experiment lets you influence your search experience by adding, moving, and removing search results. When you search for the same keywords again, you’ll continue to see [...]

I just read on a few quotes from the the report of the RLG Programs metadata practice survey on Lorcan Dempsey’s blog (I haven’t read the whole report yet) and wanted to add to his comments. The report says:
… RLG Programs surveyed 18 Partner institutions1 in July and August 2007 to obtain a baseline [...]

Via AutoCat (by J. McRee (Mac) Elrod) & Cataloging Futures:
Brian Campbell called my attention to this recorded lecture by Francis Miksa. It’s well worth the hour and a half it takes to listen to it (and I probably kept Hal awake doing so).

There was an interesting article in InformationWeek about how social networks are built to self destruct. Then over at CrunchGear there was a funny comic strip and some additional comments on the topic. Cory writes:
Emails from Facebook aren’t helpful messages, they’re eyeball bait, intended to send you off to the Facebook site, only to [...]

Now, I’m all for campus safety and for colleges using the technology that our students are using - but this is a bit much!
Students at Montclair State University in Dirty Jersey now must purchase, out of their own pocket, a Sprint cellphone, dubbed the "School Phone" by students. Ostensibly, the plan is designed to ensure [...]
