As I mentioned earlier, I gave a Tech Topics session last night for the Philadelphia SLA Chapter. Well, a few hours before I left work for Philadelphia, I got an email informing me that Google had added presentations to their office suite.

I have tried to use some other collaborative presentation suites and always ended up going back to PowerPoint, but Google Presentations really has some awesome features! Its interface is very similar to PowerPoint, making it easy to learn. In addition to collaborative editing (a feature of all Google Office tools) you can publish your presentation and work with it as a webcast (without sound). During our class last night I published my test presentation and we were all able to chat while I changed the slides everyone was seeing. Couple that with Skype, voice chat or a conference call and you have a free collaborative webcast!

This is certainly a tool worth checking out!

I am super protective of my books – I drive my husband crazy and no one wants to borrow my books anymore because there are rules But when I was in college I used to highlight passages like crazy!! I’d re-read blank pages just to find something worth highlighting – yes I’m a bit neurotic – but that’s not the point of this post.

I just learned about Wizlite – a Firefox extension that let’s you highlight a web page and share the highlighted page with others!!

Wizlite allows you to highlight text (like on real paper) on any page on the Internet and share it with everybody (or just your friends).

Do you have to research on a topic on the Internet collaboratively? By creating a group on Wizlite you can share pages with their selections among a small group of people.

I just read about a new site called Yelp – it’s another online review site. This one is a bit different from others I’ve visted – first off I think it used my IP to figure out where I’m located because it defaulted to Philly for my search, second you can review more than just restaurants – you can review doctors, salons, dentists – etc. I’m always asking people for good stylists and doctors – now I can check Yelp too.

I mentioned ExtCalendar 2 (the calendar we’re using on our Intranet at work) a while ago. Tonight I found another neat tool. I haven’t tested it … because – well we already have one, but you may want to check out Calendar Hub which allows you to create your own personal calendar or host a business calendar on your site. Check it out, I’d love to hear what you have to say about it – since I can’t test it right now.
